Dear Barry, I was present at the symposium on Saturday with my wife which we both enjoyed immensely. I am mailing simply because I wonder whether you are aware of the story of Thomas Cromwell, lawyer and adviser to Henry VIII being invited to Boston by the St. Mary’s Guild to act on their behalf in respect of a petition to the Pope to seek the renewal of the Pope’s Licence to sell indulgencies (or pardons) to the local community.
